Jürgen’s main interest over the past decade has been the capacity for managing change in organisations and in individuals. Presently he focuses on organisational change processes – mostly in public organisations and service providers - which he designs and guides as an advisor, coach and process facilitator. He mainly uses process-oriented systemic approaches / learning process approaches which he operationalises through facilitation at various levels.

He has worked in development cooperation for more than 2 decades, half in full time engagements with the German and Swiss development cooperation where he managed projects and programmes on natural resource management, research and extension from farmer to ministerial levels in Kenya, Ethiopia, Madagascar and Zimbabwe. Since 1995 when he decided to work as an international consultant, he has worked in many countries in Africa, Asia and Latin America in change and reform processes in public, non-governmental and a lot in international development institutions and agencies.

His main fields in which he facilitates change is rural, agricultural and economic development, natural resource management, governance at different levels, local development – including decentralisation and service reform and University education. Recently Jürgen has been strongly involved in African continental and regional process and organisations like Nepad, African Union etc. in various programmes aiming at change and renewal of systems. His major geographic focus is in Eastern and Southern Africa where he has worked intensively in South Africa, Zimbabwe, Uganda, Tanzania, Ethiopia, Kenya, Madagascar, Malawi, Lesotho, Cameroon, Guinea, Rwanda, Namibia, Botswana, Zambia, Mali, Ghana, Mozambique, Eritrea and Egypt. He has also worked in Asia – in India, Philippines, Indonesia, Thailand, China, Malaysia, Nepal, Mongolia and in Latin America - in Colombia, Ecuador and Dominican Republic.

Jürgen has been instrumental in developing PICOTEAM as a network organisation. He is presently the global team leader who guides the organisation in terms of strategy, conceptual and product development as well as capacity development of the team.

His M.Sc. training was in the field of natural science in geography / hydrology. During his first years of technically-oriented work, he got increasingly interested in social development issues which he combined with his technical knowledge. After 10 years of professional experience as an analytical practitioner he decided to write up a PhD in social science / innovation & communication based on his experience in the field. He graduated at the University of Giessen in Germany.

Jürgen has been prolific as author of more than 70 scientific publications, including books, book chapters, peer-reviewed articles and monographs.
