Facilitating transformation of higher education institutions for relevance to national development needs
Human development has played a crucial role in transformation of many societies including Western Europe and Japan in post second world war and more recently, the BRIC economies. Human capital development is a core function of institutions of higher education. For many developing countries, transforming education systems to develop relevant and efficient human capital for today’s macroeconomic environment is an important challenge for competitiveness and social development. This focal area deals with these issues through linking universities to the broader environment and the demand side as well as development of internal capacity to mange change in education institutions in terms of teaching, research and consultancy services they provide
